ABSTRACT This paper reports on a demonstration of YAMZ (Yet Another Metadata Zoo) as mechanism for building community consensus around metadata terms. The is motivated by the complexity standards environment and need more user-friendly approaches researchers to achieve vocabulary consensus. reviews series standardization challenges, explores crowdsourcing factors that offer possible solutions, introduces system. A presented with members Toberer materials science laboratory at Colorado School Mines, where there confirm maintain shared understanding supporting research documentation, data management, their larger infrastructure. involves three key steps: 1) Sampling terms demonstration, 2) Engaging graduate student in 3) Reflecting demonstration. results these steps, including examples dialog provenance among lab voting, show ease can facilitate conclusion discusses implications highlights next steps.
